How to Organize an Open House

You’re trying to sell your home and an open house is in order. What do you do? How to you gain interest? What should you avoid doing?

These quick ideas should help.

A Month or More before your Event:

Two Weeks Before:

  • Place an ad in your local paper, but don’t forget online sites that cater to ads. Place the ads at least two weeks before the event.
  • Talk to your friends. Let them know what you’re planning. Get on Facebook and share with your buddies what is coming up.
  • Place a sign in your yard about the upcoming Open House.
  • Purchase something nice smelling that will fill up your house with luscious scent. The best smells are those that make the potential buyer think you are baking something in the oven.

A Day Before:

  • Remind your friends and family of the event on Facebook and other social networking sites.
  • Finalize the cleaning. Make sure that everything is in its place. Water. You don’t want wet pathways the day of the Open House.
  • Make up some punch and cookies or some other wonderful treat for your guests.

The Morning of:

  • Send your children and pets to the sitters.
  • Set out your punch and cookies and get your great smelling item going at least an hour before your Open House is to start.

Once your visitors begin arriving, sit back and enjoy. Find a cozy place to occupy yourself but stay close enough that house hunters can find you if they have any questions.
